About Me
I am Lauren Beatrice, and this is my portfolio of work. I am lucky enough to work in a field where the projects I create can be diverse; each costume is as interesting as the production or occasion for which they are made. This diversity has allowed me to develop many skills and techniques in order to build beautiful costumes that, if needed, are period accurate. I am also able to incorporate period elements in to more modern costumes, creating something unique, or to utilise my skills to build something more futuristic or artistic.
I learned to sew at a young age and have a long history with the theatre, first acting and later as a technician, and I have recently brought these two worlds together. It has been a long journey, learning things as diverse as floristry and jewellery making, each new skill equipping me for my chosen career. The floristry taught me how to balance colour and transform a design into a finished product. Jewellery making allowed me to learn embellishment techniques and how to accessorise and compliment. Below you can see some examples of my print work, both heat transfer and screen printing, a skill I have learned during my studies.
Currently I am finishing a degree in Costume Construction and I am working towards a position within a museum where I can work with the public. I want to inspire in others the same love of social history that I have. Bringing our history to life (with the use of fashion and costume) enables us to better understand our ancestors and how they lived.
I aim to bring history in to the hands of the public instead of sitting behind glass!
